Does it REALLY work?

These positive Parenting Prescriptions are a bold departure from the nagging, combative approach familiar to many parents. No matter how unusual it may seem at first, parents can be assured that it works.

Persistence

A casual attempt at Parenting Prescriptions is as ineffective as a casual effort in parenting. The more knowledge and skill you gain through study and practice, the more rewarding the results for everyone.
Parenting Prescriptions are designed to produce the best opportunities for children to learn the lessons of life, and to teach the good and bad consequences while increasing love and respect. Both parents and children will make mistakes in the process. Give it time. Be persistent and consistent.

Calm Consistency

Children are unlikely to behave as desired when parents react inconsistently, emotionally, or unrealistically. With each principle, strategy, and skill, be careful to apply yourself in a calm and consistent manner.
Clearly express to your children your expectations and the related consequences. If the child is too upset or angry, calmly and sincerely acknowledge his or her frustration or concern, then ask your child to tell you what the expected behavior should be. Acknowledge the correct answer. If the child still responds incorrectly, say something like "think about it, and we'll talk later." Smile, then leave it alone and go about your business.
Make sure you have reviewed enough examples from the books, videos, tapes, and newsletters to master the Positive Parenting skills. Study the materials and media that are best for your learning style.

Professional Help

While there are certain behavioral problems that require professional therapy and perhaps medication, parents must be careful to not try to medicate their children for 'bad parenting'. There should always be a behavioral component to treatment.

Of course, Parenting Prescriptions does not claim to be the sole treatment for sexual abuse, mental diseases, or serious behavioral disorders. But under normal circumstances, as parents apply this proven system of Positive Parenting, they will find that much of their child's "problem" behavior was really due to "problem parenting". Parenting Prescriptions is an ideal complement to any treatment plan.
